Merchandising products can be a great source of Nintendo-related artwork. I believe this one comes from Toys R Us.

While at it, why not checking out my own mock-up of Super Scope packaging?

Video Game Artwork

Here’s another beautiful piece of original artwork from Kickle Cubicle by IREM corporation. You don’t get to see this kind of artwork too often. Who uses airbrushes anymore? Well, I’d love to see more.

Update: Added new scans to NES Section

Nintendo NES

Added some scans to my NES section. They’re not the highest quality I usually expect but decided to upload them anyway since I don’t have any of them in my game collection:

  • All-Pro Basketball
  • Castle of Dragon
  • Championship Bowling
  • Countdown Sesame Street
  • Monster Truck Rally
  • National Football League NFL
  • Rad Racer II
  • Rocket Ranger
  • Tag Team Wrestling
  • Total Recall

As a headlining image, I decided to post Rad Racer’s cover. I love old box art because back then imagination could spur not just covers but art pieces of entirely of their own. No computer programs!

This one is by far one of the most beautiful covers for an NES game. Too bad I don’t know the name of the artist. I’d love to get in touch with them and ask few questions about the design process and what had influenced them. What was it like making covers back then?

This image is just so retro & nostalgic at the same time!

Remember, I’m always looking for contributors so please contact me if you have some scans to donate.

Many Faces of Mario #2 – Safari Suit Mario (Mario’s Picross 2, JPN)

Ever since laying my fat & greasy hands on that thing known today as Game Boy, I’ve been enchanted by the art style of Mario & Friends characters and their world. It was so very different from what had seen before. Over two decades later my affinity towards Mario remains the same.

OK, enuff bull, here’s my quick vector take on the little guy:

Scan: Super Mario Bros 3 original watercolor artwork

This just in: A viewtiful watercolor artwork from Super Famicom game manual, page #29 if my mind serves me right. I can look at if for hours. Pure eye candy. Every time I see such artwork, I keep asking myself: Who’s master hand is behind it? I know it’s someone from Nintendo’s art department, but they gotta have a name! Right? Anyways, enjoy!
